I recently purchased this board. It has a single ram electric lift for the rear deck which had been removed and dissasembled before I got it. I am putting it back together, but not I am not quite sure if I have it right, or if I am missing something.

Is the power lift ram installed correctly or is it upside down? Should there be any other parts or any type of corresponding mechanism for the starboard side of the lid or anything else that I might not have done correctly?

Hi Rick,

Well it looks like your ram is in correctly; typically the motor is on the bottom. As for the other side, because of the size and weight of your sun deck there should be two rams or at least a high pressure shock strut on the starboard side to minimize flexing of the deck and hinge while opening or closing.

Are there signs of a second ram having ever been installed?

There are two other things to consider:

1) Does your deck open far enough to stow and retrieve the convertible top?

2) Do you have some way of disconnecting the ram or opening the hatch in the event of a power failure of ram malfunction? If you don’t, check out this bracket from Lenco: Click here.

Thanks for the information-- I can see a couple of empty holes on the lid on the side opposite the lift motor side. These holes look like a hydraulic ram could have been originally screwed into them. The lid does open plenty far.

In the picture I posted above, there are 4 aluminium upright angle brackets showing, 2 to the left of the engine and 2 to the right. Was there some sort of padding or such that was originally attached to these? Does anyone have a picture or description of what these were so I can duplicate them? Thanks

Hi Rick,

I’d say theses aluminum brackets are for the cover panels that hide the battery and trim pump assembly as well as supporting the engine enclosure side pieces which are missing in your picture.

Here is a picture of a 95 Mariah's engine bay from eBay which I believe is close to how your engine bay is supposed to look like. If you look toward the bottom of the picture you can see, there are a couple of carpeted strips of wood running along the sides of the engine to hold the carpeted side walls and in the back are the upholstered panels hiding the battery and pump. The panels should be attached to the engine side walls via two hinges.

I have the same panels and side walls to enclose the engine, but mine fit into "C" channels on the floor and back wall and the upholstered panels are secured by a single snap strap on each side instead of brackets and lastly, there is a top piece to close in the engine as well.

Rick, just curious, what'd that lift set you back? The previous owner removed mine, and I've been interested to see how much it'd be to retrofit one.

Sorry, I don't know the cost as I did not need to buy a replacment. The one in my picture was the factory unit and came with the boat, it just had been removed and I needed to figure out how to reinstall it. I did find a source for hydraulic gas spring and brackets, which my next step is to figure out how to fit it on the opposite side of the lid.
