Default Fire Port

WetWilly,

My Mariah doesn't have electric hatches so I can't help with that.Iit does however, have a fire port under the rear bench seat. Basically it is just a hole with clear plastic over it. I assume during a fire it would either melt or could be punctured quite easily. You would then insert the nozzle of your extinguisher and deploy it into the engine compartment. This eliminates the need to open the hatch and burn your face off. I'm not sure if this was standard on all Mariahs but I assumed it was.

This might be something to consider if the cost of an automatic extinguisher is too high. If you need me to, I'll take a picture.

HTH

    Hi jmills224,

I know what you’re talking about, but I don't remember seeing a "port" on our Talari.

I believe we have a similar bench seat with storage underneath the bottom cushions in front of the engine, I guess I could install a port on the back wall of the under seat storage area too.

If it's not too much trouble, I would appreciate a few pictures of your fire port.

    Thanks,
    WetWilly

I too have a port, it is located in under the main seating bench in the middle storage area.

However I also have a Sea-Fire halon extinguisher system mounted on the reverse side of the back bench in the engine compartment. Not sure if this was factory equipped or not.

    Hi guys,

jmills224, thanks a million for the picture and link!! I'll be dropping by our local West Marine this weekend to pick one up!

ShabahZ250, thanks for the info on your Sea-Fire system. It’s interesting that yours is mounted to the back of the bench, all the pictures of the fire systems I’ve found, the extinguisher is mounted to the transom area behind the engine. Is yours manual or automatic?

It's actually both. It's hard to explain, but it has 3 ways of activating. There is a 12v lead that comes off it, (currently not connected to anything, but you can buy an electronic activator for it), then it has a manual chain activator which you can pull and activate it, then it also has the heat discharge activator, much like an indoor sprinkler system in offices & hotels. The little glass that breaks when extreme heat happens.

The model I have is the FE-75M. It's listed as a "manual" activation system on their site.

I'll try and snap a pic next time I visit the boat. It is strangely mounted, so I'm assuming it might have been installed by the previous owner.

    Thanks ShabahZ250,

A picture would be great! I'm going to check out the Sea Fire systems and compare them to Fire-Boy for features and price.

BTW, I see you were busy as h*!! today! It was like someone opened the flood gates and all these brochures and manuals poured out! I am soooo glad to see a full 96 brochure up here at last!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we just three brochures short (92, 01, 02) of having all the original years?

    Thanks again,
    WetWilly

Hey ShabahZ250 and jmills224, I wanted to thanks you guys for the info and the picture on the Fire Port back in January! I went out and bought one right after you guys gave me the lowdown and it was sitting in my “To Do" box all this time! Well I finally grabbed the drill and hole saw and now it’s in!

I'm still looking at the engine bay extinguisher systems.

Guess you can never have too much peace of mind...

    Thanks again,
    WetWilly

Looks good WetWilly! Glad we could help. I'll try and get up to the boat this week and snap a pic of the extinguisher system.

I have contacted SeaFox and a CD of the 2001 brochure is on its way to me right now. I will download it to the site when I get home next week.
    Cheers
