Engine oil overfilled?

Just bought a new to me 92 212 shabah. Went to check the oil and there was no dipstick connected to the finger pull. I ended up finding the old dipstick folded in half in the bilge. I measured it and ordered one the same length. Just did an oil change and dumped in 5 qts of the approx. 5.5 the owners manual suggests and the oil is 3-4 inches above the full line. I used old 5qt jugs when extracting the warm oil to see how much I pulled out and it was about 5.5qts. Can someone with a 5.0LX measure their dipstick for me? I’ve also heard to check oil level with the boat floating but I can’t believe that would make up the huge difference I’m seeing on the dipstick.

The correct part number for a 1992 5.0LX oil dipstick is Mercury Quicksilver 861942T 7.
There are many websites that allow you to look up part numbers and then you can shop the web for best prices. One such website is MerCruiser 5.0LX (4 Barrel.) GM 305 V-8 1988-1995 Engine & Stern Drive by Serial Number Range

Thanks for the info! I’ve got the correct dipstick on order from the dealer. I will update with how much I have to pull out if it’s a significant amount. Because the one the dealer found is about the same length of the one I already ordered.
