Default where is the oil sender unit located?

Hey guys! I have a 01 Z275 with a Merc 6.2L. I believe that my oil sender unit is bad. Last Sat I looked all over the engine block and could not locate it. I talked to someone today and they said it is located under the engine block next to the oil pan. Is this correct? If so, I believe I will have to pull the engine out of the boat to get to it... I might have to tie myself off to a tree and hang upside down to get my head any further under there!

Chris looks like both the sensor for the alarm and the sender for the gauge are right above the oil filter on the block. If you have a remote filter it is in the same place above the adapter that screws in where the oil filter use to go on the block.

Every Chevrolet I've ever known has either put them there or at the top rear of the block just behind the intake manifold. Rambling now but a good rule for all oil senders is they usually won't be far from the oil pump.

Thanks Larry & Husker! You guys have confirmed my fears that it is buried under there. I guess I better start looking for a really skinny midget that I can shove down in there....oh wait, I have kids! Guess it will be another day of boat training for the kids this weekend!

Sometimes it's easier to pull the exhaust manifold csterner.
