Default Power (motor) Trim

Power (Motor) trim problems – Just got off the lake this last weekend over the Labor Day holiday and notice the motor trim would not go up or down, all it would do is click.

Tapped on the trim motor and solenoids, motor came up but would not go down. I replaced the two solenoids on the trim motor thinking they may have gone bad. Unfortunately the same problem just a clicking sound, I’m assuming the power trim motor may have gone out.

Anyone have any suggestions before I replace the power trim motor? Any Idea where I can pick one at a reasonable price?

Any help or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Big Mo

Disconnect the power trim motor and hook up the blue and green lead directly to a battery to test. If nothing, then its a bad motor. You can get after market motors from Sierra and possibly others for a lot less than the OEM parts. Check iboats.com

Make sure you have a good ground to the trim assembly as well. if you replaced the solinoids and still only get a click, you might have a good enough ground to click the solinoids, but not turn the motor. Most likely though, the motor needs serviced, whether a rebuild or replacement...

I will double check the ground wires.

Would you happen to know are they hard to rebuild, is there a place that rebuilds trim motors that I contact?

Im sure that they are rebuildable. My guess is that it would cost about the same as having a starter rebuilt which seems to run about $100.

You might check your local yellow pages for an electric motor sevice company.
