Default Engine oil

Ok so I didn't have time to get the oil changed before I winterized last fall, I did put in some oil additive but now that it is warming up it is on the top of the "to do" listThis question has probably been asked on here before but what weight and brand of oil do you run your boat? I am in North Texas and it still gets very hot down here in the summer! Also, how many quarts does the 350 mercruiser take? I think it is around 6 or 7 but thought I would ask all the experts here and save myself a trip or two back to the store!

I run Valvoline 20/50 with a bottle of lucas oil supplement. I thank it holds 5 quarts. always run heavy oil as your engine runs hard and oil breaks down faster

There's an informative oil-specific web forum at Used Oil Analysis - Bob is the Oil Guy - Bob is the Oil Guy. One of the forums is dedicated to boat and personal watercraft engine oil. The general consensus is that Heavy Duty Engine oil (diesel oil) rated at 15W-40 works good in our engines. I use Mobil Delvac 1300 15W-40 in our 4.3 and haven't had any issues. Basically, an oil rated for diesel applications contains a very robust additive package compared to a standard gasoline-rated oil.

I have a 97 jubilee, same motor, and a bravo iii outdrive.

With the filter engine is 5 quarts mercury recommends 25/40. I used a sierra brand 15w 40 is comparable(according to the dealer) the outdrive is 3 quarts
