Default Faria gauge repair issues

We have a set of Faria gauges which need repair, tach, clock and compass.
When we called Faria regarding the lifetime warranty they said there would be a $200 charge. Has anyone else had this issue with Faria. Is there an easier and/or cheper way to get these gauges repaired?

Thanks...

    Hi Donna and Jay,

Yes, $200 is a big chunk of change, but their repair costs are normally cheaper than purchasing new replacement gauges, especially if you have an older gauge set that's hard to find or no longer made. I believe the majority of this cost is for the repair of the Compass at $140 with the Tach and clock at $30 apiece or something like that.

I myself have not heard of any issues with Faria, their warranty or quality of repair. We have had other members with Gauge issues and they were all referred to Faria, hopefully one of them will chime in and let us know of their experience with Faria.

    Good luck,
    WetWilly

Thankfully, I haven't had an issue other than the tach needing a quick cleaning of the contacts. But I wanted to chime in - Faria is one of the best in the business. Unfortunately, their "lifetime warranty" requires a "registration fee" or whatever they call it that takes away some of the meaning of "lifetime warranty" (at least to me).

I understand your frustration, but WetWilly is right - it's still less than purchasing new especially since they no longer make a ""Mariah" branded gauge like the originals.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Are you sure it's the gauges? Sometimes the tach needs a simple turn of the cylinder selector to "clean" it out. Also, the trim gauge could actually be a faulty sending unit located on the lower unit.

All this gauge talk, I have a speedo that seems to be stuck at 30mph. I just bought the boat and haven't had a chance to look yet but if anyone has had this issue I would appreciate the input. Also if anyone has an electrical drawing (97 180 SE Shabah) I would LOVE a copy.
    thanks

Check first for a clogged speedo pickup. There is a very small hole on the leading edge of the outdrive. Use a small wire to clean any crud out of there.

If you become a contributing member to the forum you will have access to all the brochures, wiring diagrams and service manuals.

This works very well. I disconnected the tubes at the bottom of the outdrive (between the trim rams, was a white plastic connector) and used compressed air from the hole to the end of the tube. NOT from the tube to the speedo, unless you disconnect it from there as well. (But that was cutting into the beer drinking time so.....

I just bought my 1999 z252 and the Tach is stuck on 600 rpm and the speedo never goes above 25 mph. I have had it checked by my mechanic and he cleaned the pickup port but no luck. I am still not convinced it is both gauges. Thoughts anyone?
