Depth Finder Upgrade?

Has anybody with a Factory fitted Lowrance 3500 Depth gauge and in hull transducer upgraded to something newer?

Have a dead 3500 I need to replace but not sure what transducer will fit best in the original spot? Looking at maybe a Lowrance 3800 or Fariah at the moment unless anybody has any better suggestions?

TIA

Re: Depth Finder Upgrade?

I have the same issue... I think that the transducer is working but my 3500 head unit is messed up. I know they use a 192kHz signal and everyone now uses a 200kHz transducer.
I think that the only way to go is to buy a new head unit and transducer, but am not sure how to get the old one out of its mounting location in the bilge under the engine. I was looking at the Faria and the Hawkeye in-hull versions. I really don't want a transom mount because I don't want to put any more holes in the transom.
Anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanks

Hi:
Just to throw this info into the thread... There are three OEM Lowrance 3500 complete units with in-hull transducers on eBay now for $320.00 per. I would say that the price is 3X what they're worth but if you want the original equipment replacement, then look here:

I may have to replace the depth finder screen on the dash. Anyone know where I might be able to do it in the least expensive way?

Not sure where you'll find a matching replacement unless you can get Lowrance or who ever makes yours to repair the existing one. Youll probably end up with an entire new setup, transducer and all. Do a search on Google or eBay or similar. They are not unique to just Mariah.

Big thing to be careful of is that dash. That plastic is old and brittle.
