1993 Mariah Boat Co MX20

Hi, I'm looking to buy this boat. I'll link it to the ad for you all to see. I'm about to pull the trigger on it as everything i need is in this boat. the only thing that worries me is the year, 1993. I'm 100% new to boating, so I'm not sure if I should be worrying about the year as much as I would if it were a car or something.

I need a 20' as I live on lake ontario, I won't be going out far or on rough days but I still feel like 20' should be the safer bet.

any opinions?

Thank you all,

S

Take a couple of minutes and read this buyers guide: http://www.mariahownersclub.com/foru...ed-mariah.html

As for the boat itself and just from the photos supplied, it appears to be in very good condition. Mariah sold most of their boats with Mercruiser outdrives but there are a few out there with Yamaha outdrives. You will probably want to add a pair of Nauticus Smart Tabs to help it onto (and hold) plane easier. https://nauticusinc.com/smart-tabs-sx/

And yes, i think it is priced just a bit high.

I'm not sure on the price of boats in your area but in Colorado that boat might be in the 8-10k range. 18,800 is a high for a 28 year old boat sitting on a rusted trailer. Speaking of that trailer, looks like it needs attention. Hubs, brakes, lights, wiring, brakes, is the frame even sound? That can set you back a bit. Not sure what parts are available to you in local boat shops but I'm fairly certain a marine shop will not have many Yamaha outdrive parts laying around in stock. Maybe a lot of parts cross reference to yamaha outboard parts in regards to outdrive but it might be a pain having to order basic parts if you're in a pinch. (I only say that because I've yet to see a yamaha I/O setup, I could be wrong about parts availability)
For that price you'd think the boat wouldn't need any attention but just looking at the photos she could use a good buff job.

If you're new to boating it might be money well spent to hire a surveyor to inspect the boat. Or even a boat mechanic. Couple hundred bucks could save you thousands. You don't want to be buying someone's money pit...

Hey Moto. That boat is here in Ontario, Canada so with the difference in our dollars your range is up to about $13k Cdn. Boat prices though are higher up here. My thoughts were $14k - $15k Cdn max depending on a water test.

Thats quite the price difference, that definitely puts some perspective to the amount. I've been watching prices on all of these boats and am blown away with some of the prices I've seen. I know for a fact new boats are not being pumped out like they use to be. Drives up the price of the used market. Seeing 18,800 on that boat was a shock even considering the current situation.

I was a bit surprised at the asking price, even in Canuck bucks. A lot of the boat dealers up here have very low inventories right now so when demand is greater than the supply, the prices go up. :(
