Yamaha out drive

I have a 1994 192 Barchetta. It has the 4.3 with the Yamaha outdrive. I am in need of a bellows kit for it, as after almost 20 years I have a leak in one. I have found all the Yamaha part numbers, but it is extremely costly compared to Merc or Volvo. I was wondering if since this was almost a complete rip off of a Volvo design if there was a cross reference over to a Volvo drive. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Re: Yamaha out drive

I think the Volvo SX , and OMC Cobra drive, exhaust , and shift bellows fit. But not for sure.
Is it the u joint boot , exhaust boot , or the shift cable boot that is leaking?
Probably better plan on replacing all three.

There are a few members with the Volvo and Cobra drives. Hopefully one or two will chime in and can do some measuring for you.

Mean time , I'll see if I can find anything on it for you. :)

Re: Yamaha out drive

After searching on another forum that has more members with Yamaha packages , it looks like the only boot that is interchangeable is the shift cable boot. A Merc Alpha shift boot cable will work.
You have to have a special socket to get the cable off , but it can be made I guess.
As for drive bellows and exhaust bellows no go! Gotta be Yamaha specific.:(

Thanks ColoradoDiablo. I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case. The Yamaha bellows are like $600 for the three and a gimble bearing. I had hopes that something would cross reference into it.

Wow! 20 years on a set of bellows....
No wonder they're $600 if they last that long.....

I feel your pain, but if I was you I'd go genuine on something like the bellows.
Not trying to spend your money, but remember it's the bit that keeps the water out.

Re: Yamaha out drive

The retaining system is definitely different on all three.
As Andy has stated , better bite the bullet and use the OEM parts.
Wouldn't be any fun getting up in the morning to find a sunk boat!:shakehead:
Especially a Mariah!!
