Wakesurfing (safely) should really only be done on a true inboard. having the prop mid hull protects the surfer as typically you need to be extremely close to the back of the boat when surfing to get the best wake. Even with an extended platform off the back of a I/O, it is still extremely risky.

The added item... less to do with safety and more quality of surf, most wakeboats have ballast tanks you can fill to drop the rear end to make a significant wake right at the rear, allowing the surfer to simply surf the wake no assistance, or a really short lead off the tower. I always thought it was annoying seeing these wallowing pigs cruising along at 10 mph with the speakers blaring but tried it and it is a blast...a whole different issue is the cost of a wakeboat... ouch...

We tube/ski/wakeboard off ours, but never contemplated wake-surfing...the Mariah I/O's (or any I/O for that matter) is just not set up correctly for it.
