First weekend on the water!

Just wanted to post up that I finally got my boat on the water this past Saturday. Now it was only for half an hour, but it was long enough to satisfy the itch. :D

Shortly (an hour) after we docked at my uncles place (under the dock) the skys began to open up and it rained, stopped, rained, stopped, and then continued to rain into the evening. We had the PERFECT time of day to get on the boat and get off the boat as well.

Now for a service update: As some of you regulars know, in another thread that Wetwilly and I were chatting about this "burp/chug" or whatever on first throttle acceleration problem I had with my boat.... its GONE! Ok it did cost me $360 for the carb rebuild, but the problem is now history. Another item I did notice was how easily the boat started for me. I dropped the hammer twice, left the throttle at 1/4 throttle and VAAAROOOOM it started off the first key turn!

Also, I had my GPS on board and according to the GPS unit and speedo we were goin around 35mph or about 57km/hr on top end (4500rpm range). Only one passenger (mom's first ride on the boat after Breast Cancer treatments in 2007) and myself and whatever gear we had and that was the max I got it to go. As far as I could tell, I gained a bit more power on the top end. Plus, having a properly balanced and reconditioned prop I would imagine helped out.

On a complete side note, Saturday afternoon we were up at the Gravenhurst Waterfront and Gordon Bay Marina was doing a Boston Whaler Demo Day at the Boston Pizza. Which is by far the COOLEST Boston Pizza! The patio / bar is on water!.

So we walked around the boats while it was raining (stayed dry under the tarps) and once the rain stopped, one of the demo day guys came over and took us for a spin in one of the Whalers. What an amazing boat!!! BUT ... what a crazy price tag for them.

For a $100k boat, the thing better handle pretty good. It had a whisper idle quiet four stroke Merc outboard 250 on the back. I didn't even notice it was idling and we started to pull away from the dock....:eek_animated:

Downside, due to the rain .. no photos were taken in Gravenhurst of the Boston Whalers. Rain + SLR camera = camera stays in car. :(

Then these little guys came over for a visit. I think they wanted to see the Diablo up close. :)

Good ol' Gordon Bay marine. We stop in there once or twice a year on the way up to the family cottage just to have a look around.

btw...are you going up to the antique boat day at Gravenhurst? My better half 'talked' me into going this year....

When a 3.0 is the biggest you got, you go with it.

Actually what I meant more to say was it would take me about 5 drops of the hammer and about 4-5 key starts to get my boat started last year. So seeing it start off one turn was amazing!

I hear you. It's nice when a finely tuned motor just starts right up & settles into a smooth idle.

The Antique boat show weekend is July 4-6 at Gravenhurst. There is a Segwun cruise on the Sat (5th) from 10a - 5pm with tickets available at the show. Website is http://www.acvs.ca
