Need help with trailer tires
I have a 2001 Z302 on a Prestige tripple axle trailer, and pretty much every other time i take it out i blow a tire.
Now bearings are good, PSI are all at around 45, and im traveling at around 70mph average, If anyone has any input on these it would b greatly appreciated. Thanks Luis \ Oh yeah and they are 215/75/14 |
Re: Need help with trailer tires
What kind of tires are they?
|
Re: Need help with trailer tires
You must be in one big hurry to get to the lake luke!:eek_animated:
If they are ST trailer tires , your running way to fast with them. They are only rated for 60 mph max. Running that kind of speed , you need a LT rated tire , which is very hard if not impossible to find these days in that size. Tire pressures should be at max , which is 50 PSI , if indeed you have ST tires. |
Re: Need help with trailer tires
Heck yeah we're all in a hurry to get there! Might be on the losing end of fuel mileage there though. I would be scared to haul a 302 at 70mph.

Re: Need help with trailer tires
I get 13.0 at 75 roughly 14.2 at 65 to 70 at between 60 to 65 i get around 15.4 so it being almost 9k lbs i dont think 13 miles per gallos is too bad.
Got to love them diesels. Oh and the tires St So i guess i know why i keep blowing tires |
Re: Need help with trailer tires
The speed limits here in Texas outside every city is 75 and lowest is 65 on highways
|
Re: Need help with trailer tires
I think I'd be going to a 15" tire/wheel combo with the tires being LT Series if you got room to do it.
ST trailer tires need a drastic revamp in order to stay up with the times. They have been a issue for quite sometime now. As for the minimum speed limit..........I would hope that doesn't include trailer hauling vehicles.:( |
Re: Need help with trailer tires
no i doubt it but i hate going under the speed limit even when im doing hotshot work im never under the speed limit unloaded trailer or towing 20k lbs i dont like it

Re: Need help with trailer tires

Need help with trailer tires
I would go to the local tire shop and ask for the highest ply tire they have for that size. Thats alot of weight and it likes to sway. I had to upgrade the tires on the truck b/c i tow a cab over camper and my boat and i was getting alot of sway and blew out a couple tires till i switched to a higher ply tire.

Re: Need help with trailer tires
That is the problem , they don't have higher rated tires in the 14" size he has. Everything is load range C anymore.

Re: Need help with trailer tires
Thanks for the info for ST tires I usually keep mine at 35. Bumped up to 45psi now.

Re: Need help with trailer tires
I pulled my 302 from Tulsa to KC to Lawrence to LOTO running 70-75 with no problems. Two new tires on 1 out of 3 axles.

I bought the boat with 4 brand new tires like this on its trailer. They seem to be holding up well. I had no idea about ST being sub par to the LT tires. Not that I plan on buy buying anytime soon but I'll have to look into that for the next go around Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: Need help with trailer tires
Those are the same tires im running

Re: Need help with trailer tires
I'd like to 2nd the recommendation for the Kumho tires. I've had a set on the boat trailer for 3 years now with no issues. They're made in Korea and not China.
