Winch Cable Help
This may be a stupid question, but in my limited exposure to boats, I have never seen a winch cable like the one on my chariot trailer. Rather than having a bolt that you slide the cable through, the cable is sewed together at the end (so that it is really skinny) and then threaded through three holes on the side of the winch. Where do you buy one that is sown like this? I can't get the end of the standard cable I bought to pinch small enough to fit through the holes.

Re: Winch Cable Help
Never been a fan of winch cables, they get twisted and rust up!
all my winches have had webbing straps. (Like big seat belt material) don't know if this is a UK thing but it's much more user friendly and tidier. |
Re: Winch Cable Help
actually mine is a webbing strap, just like a seat belt. Sorry, I should have specified.

Re: Winch Cable Help
Can't say I ever seen one like you describe either. Mine is the through bolt style.
Can you post pics? Interesting. |
Re: Winch Cable Help
After being unable to put my new strap on, I put my old one back on tonight. I'll try to unwind it tomorrow and take a picture.

Re: Winch Cable Help
Funny thing about winch straps/cables, although the one on my trailer is over 5m long it probably only ever gets unwound by about a meter.

Update: I found the correct strap. This is what it looks like. It's called a winch strap with a tail. |
