Light problems

Hello,

So, I have an issue with the Chariot trailer.

The running lights work on the amber lights by the wheel well as does the outer running light on the left rear tail light.

The two foremost lights, the three red lights in the back of the trailer and the right rear light do not work.

The front-most left running light is completely missing, the right rear light does not come one for any reason nor do the three in the middle of the back.

Also, when the brake peddle is pressed, all the lights turn off.

I was messing with it but ran out of day light. I want to run continuity tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any input or suggested starting points.

Will that one light that is missing cause that much of a problem?

I hope I was clear enough in this. Here is a diagram I found that should be similar to what I will have except it doesnt show the foremost two amber lights.

Sounds like your having grounding issues. That is the most common problem on trailers.
I'd check that all the light assemblies are grounded good , check to make sure you don't have a power wire grounding were the light your missing use to be.
Test and make sure all is good at the tow vehicle end of the wiring plug.
Some of the chessy conectors they use will corode to the point of failing. (Three center lights are tapped to either taillamp.
If all else fails or it pisses you off enough like it did me , then just pull you a new "Y" harness and start over.

Thank you for the input.

I did notice that the ground wire for the right tail light was there but sitting on a painted surface so I know that one wasn't worth a crap. I have a feeling that the missing light could be most of my heartache because the plug for it was just sitting in the channel of the frame.

I will try to see more tomorrow, but I have considered just replacing the whole thing.

Water and wiring can only get along for so long , and it usually suxs when it doesn't.
Good Luck and keep us updated :)

It was definitely the ground. Turns out the ground was separated in the tongue extension piece. I played hell getting a new wire through to just under where the winch is. But it is all good now except for the light that got ripped off and the right rear running light is bad. Brakes work and signals work so I am happy for now.
