Re-carpeting of bunks

The carpet on my trailer's bunk rails is all flat and looks worn. I'd like to have it re-carpeted. Question is, do boat shops do this, or do I need to have it done at a trailer repair shop? Also, what do you do with the boat while the trailier is being repaired? Do shops have some why of lifting the boat and storing it?

Boat shops will do the work for you and most have forklifts or whatever is needed to remove the boat from the trailer. However....its not a difficult job and the carpeting is available at most marine supply stores as well as places like Bass Pro.

We just replaced ours. We bought the carpet from a carpet store had the boards cut and laminated and took them both to an upoholstrey shop and had them recovered, he used stainless steel staples, for rust prevention. (We also bought new bolts to replace the old ones) Then while at the lake this weekend we rented a slip for the boat took the trailor to our camp site and took the old boards off, put the new ones on (you just have to drill new holes) it took about 2 hrs is all!

Indoor/outdoor carpet is the easiest to work with, the more pliable the better! Be sure and tell the carpet cutter to cut it long enough to cover the ends.

Has anyone switched from carpet to "Bunkaps"???? If so, what do you think? Here's a link to their product: BUNKAPS Bunk Covers for Boat Trailers, Dry Racks, Boatlifts & Docks

Re: Re-carpeting of bunks

Just did this on mine. New bunks, new inside wheel well covers, new indoor/outdoor carpet (which better matches my hull..) all new hardware. I glued the carpet to the boards and secured it at the back with staples. Cost me about $75 in materials and a day of my time to completely strip and replace all the parts.

Re: Re-carpeting of bunks

I need to re carpet my lower bunks this weekend. West Marine has 11" X 12'. Don't know if is wide enough.

I forgot to measure and take note if the 1995 Chariot Trailer for a 22' Talari has 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 bunks and what is the length. 10' or 12'. :yikes:

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!
VDave
