New Wiring Harness for 95' Eagle Spirit Trailer

Hi guys,

I envy all of you warm weather boaters out there. It's 0 degrees in Wisconsin and I have to wait until May to get my boat on the water.

I have a list of things to do to my Z202 this spring including: New grapics, electric hatch motor replacement, XM satellite and GPS installation, tune-up, but most important a new wiring harness for the trailer.

I am the second owner of my 95' Z. The previous owner rarely used the trailer as the boat sat on a boat lift on a lake. That left plenty of time for mice to feast on the wiring harness as the trailer sat all year. The turn and brake lights work, but the running light continue to blow fuses in my MDX. The rear light bar looked suspect so I took it off and found that mice ate the wire feeding it. I pulled a little more of the harness out and found that the mice ate about 6 inches of the (brown) running light wire bare and that is what was shorting out against the trailer frame inside. I taped that up and thought I had it. On my next trip I blew the fuse again so it's hard telling how much wiring they chewed. I plan on replacing the whole harness to be safe.

I noticed a couple of links for wiring harnesses in this forum, but can't tell if they are designed for my trailer. Does anyone have information or direction on where I could get a full harness for my Eagle Spirit trailer? If the factory is my best bet, are they still in business? Your suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.

Danny

Sounds like a fun winter project... :shakehead:

I don't know about re-sellers but as far as I know Eagle is still in business. Contact Us

Good luck with it, and maybe post up if you find anythhing. I have an Eagle Spirit myself.

I have an Eagle trailer under my 1992 2000Z as well and not one light on mine works, I'm sure due to mice, corrosion, neglect, whatever....

I was looking at an inexpensive lighting kit in the Overton's catalog, but decided to hold off until the boat is in the water for summer before tackling the job.

My issue is rust and the concern that welding or other repairs are going to be far more costly.

There are a couple places in my neck of the woods who do trailer work, so once the boat is off, I am going to give it a thorough check and make a list of what needs done, and then get some estimates of the cost.

If I am told the repairs are simple, I will find a friend or someone I know to do it, before having to sink a boatload of $$$ into having a total overhaul.

Because if it has to be overhauled, it might just be wise to purchase a new trailer....

Hey Depman,

Z 202 gave me the website for Eagle Trailers in the previous post. All my lights work and the trailer is in great shape due to the previous owner only using it to store the boat. I just need a new wiring harness.

I plan on talking with Eagle. I will also keep my eyes open at the Greater Milwaukee Boat Show that starts this week. If I see anything I will let you know.

Thanks. I will keep checking to see what's going on.

I highly doubt I will be purchasing a brand new Eagle trailer though....not because of the brand, but simply because I can't see spending a fortune on a 2010 trailer under a 1992 boat....

The overall trailer looks to be in fairly good shape, but there are some areas of concern that I need a few opinions on before deciding the best way to go.

I am hoping that for less than $200, I can get done what is needed with some rust and the lighting/wiring.
