Upgrade Prestige Triple Axle Trailer to 15" Wheels and Tires

I've read discussions on the issue of having 14" wheels and tires on a triple axle trailer. I have considered checking into upgrading to 15" wheels and tires but wanted to see if anybody else has done this to their trailer set-up. I only want responses from other triple axle owners who have upgraded to 15" wheels. I want to hear if the 15" wheels made a difference in trailering and the life of the tires. I'm not looking for instruction on how to measure wheel/tire clearance on my trailer. I just put new 14" D rated tires on all of the axles, but I am looking to make the upgrade for next season. Thanks.

Re: Upgrade Prestige Triple Axle Trailer to 15" Wheels and Tires

I'm no expert but I know that better ground clearance is one advantage of getting 15" wheels. Also, 15-inch wheels can provide more choices when it comes to wheel bolt patterns than the 14- inch. About the tire wear, there are several factors that affect it like load, tire pressure, and alignment. I have 14" Maxxis tires on my triple axle trailer. I got them from 4WO|Truck Parts and I have about 5k miles on these tires with no issues at all.

Re: Upgrade Prestige Triple Axle Trailer to 15" Wheels and Tires

I almost did this back when I did my trailer over haul. The reasons I wanted to do this were easy access to Load D tires. You're very limited in the 14" size. The reason I did not do it: I just purchased a brand new 14" matching wheel and didnt want to buy 5 new 15" wheels. I still may do this when these tires need replacing.

Side note: last Thurs we were down in Florida towing a 6500# Rinker on a tandem axle. We had a blow out at 1am. We found the nearest Walmart and picked up 2 complete 14" Load C wheel tire combos to continue on. They were available in the boating section and not in automotive. If we're were on 15" wheels in an odd size we might have been out of luck as at 1am the auto area was closed.
