Re: compass installation?
Hello from the Netherlands. Posting for the first time. I bought a 2010 (new) Mariah 18 SX 3.0 Mercruiser. Proud of it and it wil be pretty complete once they have also delivered the original Biminitop.
I have been out with the boat 2 times now. The second day the engine bogged somewhat when slowly accelerating forward and going backwards slowly. Have to fing out what that is. I do not have a compass installed. Do you guys know which compass to buy? I have white faria instruments with chrome surrounding. |
Re: compass installation?
go to westmarine.com and they have white ritchie compass. It does not have chrome surounding but mariah company sent me to them. It looks real nice and not hard to install. hope this helps you. Tommy

Re: compass installation?
I did exactly the same. Replaced my broken black Ritchie compass with a White one (also from West Marine but doesn't really matter where you get it). Looks great!

Re: compass installation?
yes, it sure does make the insterment pannel stand out. I also installed a faria clock with a white fase and crome around the outside. That fills the empty spot next to the depth guage. I have my boats up on blocks for the winter and cant wait to see spring to get them into the water. have lots of big deep lakes around me and great to get lost in.

Re: compass installation?
I'm also looking for a replacement compass. Mine has a crack in it and all the fluid leaked out. Which model did you buy? was it a direct fit?
As for your Compass knock out - was it glued in place? On my 2001 Diablo the fake wood trim was all glued on with some type of indestructible adhesive. It was just gooped on it everywhere. i had a hell of a time getting my one panel pulled to install my depth gauge - plus Ii ended up losing the panel shortly after removal. |
Re: compass installation?
Yes the same happened to mine. A crack and a leak rendered it useless. I replaced it with exactly the same model the boat had previously, Ritchie Navigation F-50.
West Marine catalog here Except I ordered a White one, as stated previously. |
Re: compass installation?
I believe mine is the Explorer series, although I emailed Ritchie last night to confirm. I also asked them about servicing mine as they do inhouse repair work. Hopefully they can quote me a price that makes it cheaper to fix than replace (although if not - the white would look really good).
tommyd - which series did you buy? Did you get it installed yet? Thanks, Nick |
Re: compass installation?
I emailed Ritchie. They sell the globe piece / assembly incase your compass has cracked. Here is the email I received.
Hello Nicholas, * The compass is an Explorer series V-57 or V-57.2 . The compass is a one piece capsule inside the housings. The capsule can be replaced. I have attached disassembly instructions. * A capsule is part# EX-0067 ASY ($27.50 plus shipping). Parts can be ordered with a MC or Visa by calling our service department at 781-709-3202 or via PayPal. If you would like to use PayPal, please e-mail me your ship to address and I can have a payment request sent to your e-mail. * Regards, * Cristin Service Department Hope this helps someone who just wants to fix their original. Re: compass installation?
the knock out on my Mariah 19sx was not glued but was in tight. I drilled hole in center of knock out and pulled and it came right out.

Re: compass installation?
tommyd - was their wiring in the dash for the compass already? I wouldn't be surprised if there was.
