installing new compass

have 2007 sx 19 bowrider. Just got new compass and ready to intall. Has anyone put one in the top of dash blank hole made for it ? Have tried to take the dash out but is flimsy and in tight so put it back in before I made a mistake. I do not see any seam that would make the blank come apart. The last thing I want to do is cut 3 inch dia hole into the blank. Any ideas ?

Let me know what you find out, and if you have gotten it installed. I have the same boat and i've been wanting to put one on my boat. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get the compass and how much did you pay for it. Thank you in advance.

I got my compass at West Marine.com. It cost 87.99 white and 79.99 in black. The blank does come out to put the compass in. I drilled a small hole in the blank then stuck my finger in it and pulled the blank out easlly. The compass went in and looks great. You have to get under the dash to hook up the wires for the light. Its a little tight but not hard. I like it real well.
