Re: sx18 electrical problem

Sometimes the transmission can mess up the ignition. I've run into this a few times myself. Easiest way to fix it is to cycle the throttle into forward, (all the way), then click back into neutral, cycle all the way into reverse, and back into neutral and try the ignition key again. If the transmission is caught in between gears (and not truly in neutral), it won't start.

The other thing to check, is your kill switch activated?

Re: sx18 electrical problem

i spent the arvo working on it and tracing wires without a wiring diagram is painfull i checked the killswitch also checked the transmission i even cleaned the starter solinoid and i still cant get power to the ignition the only way i did get it to start again was run a jumper wire from back cigerette plug to the red wire on the ignition barrel and starts straight away but that still doesnt fix my problem as it is dodgy and i threw a few things around as it seems as thou i am just chasing my tail

Re: sx18 electrical problem

Hi adampeteer, I had a problem with starting ny SX18 a few years ago, when I turned the key I got nothing. I was getting power to the solinoid but not from the solinoid to the starter.
Wet Willie from the forum told me to find the yellow/red wire from the solinoid and check I was getting power through it to starter, which I was not. I found the faulty piece in the yellow/red wire cut it out and replaced it and all was good. Hope this helps.

Re: sx18 electrical problem

after spending the day cleaning the solinoid it ended up being the 90amp fuse off the starter motor and in removing it i wrecked the starter motor so new starter but not putting that fuse back in no use only there to protect wiring and i couldnt find one but now after taking it out on the water my solinoid has stopped working so i will have to pull it out again and clean it back up
