Yep, That's about all you can do. I saw a picture somewhere and they had placed the transducer about 2" off center of the prop. Seemed kinda close to the center of the boat but I'm no expert. You might call or go by a boat shop in your area and see what they recommend. They probably install them all the time. Wish I could be more help. I am going to email Nauticus and see what they say about how the different settings effect the boat performance. I will repost what I find out.

transom mount is easier to install, and smaller holes in the hull! Just as accurate.
