2004 SX19 Help Needed

13 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and need some advice.

I am currently looking to buy this Mariah SX19. The seller has it listed as a 2005 but after looking through the brochures and given the interior design, I have concluded that it must be a 2004. The hour meter reads 60 hrs and appears to be functioning correctly. Also, the boat is clean as a whistle and comes with the original trailer.
The seller has it listed for $15,500 and will not budge on the price. Do you all think this boat is worth that much? I have included pictures.

I drove the boat on Thursday and it runs perfectly. No smoke, No issues except for the Tach and speedometer not functioning but the battery is charging. What are you all's thoughts? I welcome any and all advice.
Thanks,
Colby

Re: 2004 SX19 Help Needed

This is a sellers market this summer and prices on used boats have gone up considerably. He may not be off by much in his asking price. As for the model year, the last 2 digits of the Hull ID# are the year it was manufactured. It may not have been sold until sometime in 2005 (or even later) and as such, was titled as a 2005.

The speedo problem is likely due to a plugged up opening on the front of the outdrive where the speedo intake tube is. That's a common problem which is corrected by clearing the hole or by disconnecting the tube at the speedometer and blowing compressed air back thru the tube. The tach is likely a poor ground connection which again was relatively common with these boats.

Thanks for the response. I feel a little better about it. The last 2 digits on the hull are 05. So, according to what you've written, it must be a 2005 model. Unfortunately, you're correct about it being a sellers market. I guess I'll take the plunge and buy the thing and just look at it as something I need to keep for a long time.

Do you have any recommendations as far as things I should inspect/replace as preventative maintenance once I get it home? I only ask because I sold a 2018 Avalon pontoon this week and I don't have much experience with inboard applications.

I'm not as familiar with the Sea-Fox 'Mariahs' as i am with the original Mariah boats but my comments in this thread would hold true to either one;

And for what its worth, that 15 yr old boat appears to be exceptionally clean.

I also have a 2004 Mariah SX19. Been a very good boat! I was always told that the '04s were the last of the original Mariahs.
Is this wrong? Sea fox take over on 2002 or 2005?

Re: 2004 SX19 Help Needed

In 2001, the shipyard announced its closure. The factory and equipment were sold at auction, and the hull forms, patents and rights to the brand were bought by Sea Fox Boats. The new owners have made changes in interior design, added additional features and resumed production in 2003. In general, these boats remained the same, long loved by customers.

Construction of Mariah boats continued until the early 2010s, and in 2014 the trademark was sold to Canadian manufacturers.

Your SX19 is not an original Mariah. As you figured out, the original Mariah Co declared bankruptcy & shut down operations in 2001 but there are a few 2002 titled boats out there. Sea-Fox bought the rights to the Mariah name along with the hulls from the smaller Mariah boats (up to 23') and I believe it was Challenger that bought the hulls of the larger boats. Sea-Fox began production of their version of 'Mariah' in 2003. Sea-Fox did not purchase any of the original Mariah inventory or parts and did not provide any support for the original Mariahs. Sea-Fox itself shut down their Mariah production in 2012-2013, sold the rights to the Mariah name (I believe it was to 'Dorel') and no longer provide support for their boats. The new owner has never revived the Mariah name to date. This information is all documented here on this website.
