Mariah 2003 with 190 HP Motor

I recently purchased a pre-owned 2003 SX20. All the pricing sites such as NADA, and Blue Book, have the listing for the standard motor as a 220 HP plant. Mine has a 190 HP motor, 4.3L. I was curious if this might indicate that the original owner purchased it with this motor, or if the original motor was changed out. Can anyone help me out on how to verify this? Is there some sort of website that links the motor vin numbers with the boat vin numbers?

There is a website very similar to Carfax, for boats. I believe it's boathistoryreport.com

I can't vouch for their services as I've never bothered to look mine up. The reports are costly, I believe around $40-50.

The 220HP motor could be one of two things. The carb'd 5.0L (305) or the MPI Fuel Injected 4.3L. Carb'd 4.3L is 190HP, MPI is 220HP. I doubt the original owner would have swapped engines, but if they had, you most likely would be able to tell, as there would be all new engine mounts, and probably some tell-tale signs of removal like scratches, loose panels, etc.

I'd say most likely NADA website is wrong. But a call to Sea Fox would probably clarify things for you. Let us know what you find out!

I used boathistoryreport.com before purchasing my boat. It did seem pretty concise, but I'd still question whether the repair shops are integrated with the historical database as good as the cars are with carfax.

Thanks to everyone for the information about my motor and match to our new boat. This is a great club!
