Owner's Manual

I just picked up a new SX19, my first boat!, but there was no owner's manual. The dealer said that Mariah doesn't supply one. Is this true?

il_Mio 06-22-2008 07:30 PM

Hi Rick,

welcome on board.

Regarding the manual, that is not correct, I had with my new SX18 a full plastic bag in the cooler dash that contained a "runabout ownersmanual" and a mercruiser owners manual as well as the Clarion M475 radio manual and the Hummingbird Depth Sounder manual (last depends if you buy this option of course).

Kind regards,

Johan

I did get the Runabouts manual but it's generic. I was hoping for something specific to this boat.

Yes, I find it unbelievable that they just supply a cheap generic manual. There are specific questions about the boat I have struggled to get answered.

But is true.. the generic is all you get

il_Mio 06-22-2008 08:40 PM

That is correct, the owners manual is no where near specific. In my opinion with the price of these new boats, it is to expensive to give the same service as in the golden years where a boat had a type specific owners manual compaired to the ones you still receive with a new car. But again, the most important is the wiring and the engine, and that can be found in Mercruiser manual.

bakdraft 06-22-2008 09:03 PM

FYI here is a list of all the documentation I eventually received from the dealer 2 months after buying the boat ( There is a story behind that ) Johan, did you get any more than this?

NMMA - Runabouts
Certificate of conformity
Richie compass and tool
BIMINI top mounting insructions
HDR 610 Humminbird manual
Double loop tool?
Spare keys
Clarion Guarantee
Clarion product registration form
Audio Warning leaflet and stickers
Tiny split pin / medium
Mercury Manuals CD ROM
Various small papers
Clarion operators manual
Clarion wiring diagram
bolt
Hose connector-7252
Mercury operators manual

I know it's expensive to print and distribute a manual but you'd think they'd at least post sonething comprehensive on their web site. They at least owe that to their customers. Very disappointing.

At least the place I bought it from also runs the marina and the sales guy is very knowledgeable and willing to help.

dudders 06-23-2008 05:17 PM

Hi Rick / Johan, I also only received the same manuals as Johan has. I have sent them to Ryan for posting on this site. I am not sure if he has been able to do this yet.
Yes it is very disappointing that SeaFox dont produce model specific manuals (especially wiring diagrams which would be really handy).
Perhaps if we all contact them at some stage asking, it may get them thinking and acting.

That was nice of you to send your manual in.... but... it can be ordered from This link to NMMA site for about $6.00 - This was probably cheaper than your postage. Still it is a handy link to know about. I was passed this by Stewart Mitchell

I thought of scanning it in myself, but to be honest... the content isn't worth the effort.

I totally agree that a wiring diagram is essential. Also many questions that pop up such as the automatic bilge pump and how to disable it are obviously not covered in the runabout manual. There are also some dashboard switches which I simply do not know what they do or why they have two rocker positions etc..

I agree, the mercruiser manual shows some engine specific wiring but no dashboard / boat specific wiring which we all need in the end...

I hope the folks from Seafox already found this forum so they can pickup these simple requests and create some online info that can be downloaded per type of boat and make all of their customers happy customers.

Edit:

I went through Dave's list and this is what i have got:

NMMA - Runabouts OK

Reviewing our lists - they are both close..

BIMININ Top mounting instructions - these are dimensions, mounting points etc with a drawing. Not overly useful but interesting - I will post this in the manuals section

Double loop tool - it is in a bag and looks very familiar as a part on the boat but I can't figure where from. I sort of wondered if it was a tool to open the fuel cap, i.e. a sort of large key, but I don't have the boat now to try it? I will photo and post it.

Mercury manuals cd. I am glad you have it because can you believe my luck, my CD someone managed to staple through the CD and it is now useless!

The bolt looks to be like some sort of drain plug - I will photo and post

The 7252 plug is just the fittment for muffs - I also bought these - you would think on a $14,000 engine they would throw a set in FOC.

I also have the Bungs and clarion removal tools - just forgot to post them.

I will try to do a nice summary list of what it would seem you should get with your boat and post this in the manuals section.

If the double loop tool is what I think it is then it's used to remove the gas cap. I got all of the things mentioned by everyone. Still can't believe they don't have anything specific to the craft.

Heard back from Mariah

I sent a question through the Mariah web site and got a response. Below is their answer and my response:

Thank you for your reply Amy.

I received a copy of the NMMA manual which is fine for general boating
knowledge but doesn't tell me anything specific about my boat. The spec
sheet you attached (which I already had from your web site) does not provide
much detail. For example, what's the model number for the radio (there was
no radio manual)? My boat has the upgrade with satellite.

Other things such as how to operate the controls, how to adjust the seat,
how to assemble/disassemble the Bimini Top are not covered at all.

General Motors has large variety of cars, SeaRay has a large variety of
boats and yet both companies include an owner's manual with all vehicles. If
this is a cost cutting move being as it is expensive to print and distribute
manuals why can't you have detailed owner instructions posted on your web
site for download? That wouldn't cost much at all. For the Mariah line you'd
only need to create a manual per product line so 4 isn't exorbitant.

I believe that Sea Fox and Mariah should rethink this policy and provide
your customers with the details an Owner's Manual would provide.

Thanks again for replying to my inquiry.

Rick Cooley

looking for manual

I am also looking for manual on the 5.7 merc with alpha one drive, gearing , rpm's, two barrel or 4 barrel . different prop sizes for my boat and if anyone could tell me if i can switch to mpi or to the four barrel. Had the boat out last week using gps and only got up to 48mph . Any ideas to increase speed without changing bottom end. My boat is a 1997 shabah 198se.

This is the same package as you will get in Holland, the general owners manual, Mercruiser owners manual and the general information of the depth finder and the Clarion.

As I had a Bayliner before, most of things were common, but for anyone who is new in boating it is a little bit strange to receive a general manual. This will be something for Mariah to supply a manual for the new Mariah.

I own a Mariah SX 18 2008, with a Mercruiser 3.0TKS, with, the wonderfull, powersteering, and it is running perfectly.

umm..ok. Since you have a '95 'runabout' according to your profile, you need to post this in the "Original Mariah" section. As for asking about obtaining a manual, this is a really common request. Manuals are available to contributing members but realize that the manual is very generic and contains only general boating information. If you have a specific question about the operation of your boat, feel free to post them in the Original Mariah section and someone will help you out.
