Hi all,
I have an FS20 2008.
Does anyone know if the bilge pump is connected to the alarm.

The bilge pump should not be connected to the alarm.

There's only 3 systems connected to the Mercruiser Warning System. Oil Pressure, Engine Temperature, and Gear Oil Sensor. If your alarm is going off, it's one of these three things.

Ahh great . That's good to know.
Alarm is intermittant. Mostly comes on when throttling off, making a tight turn and powering up again to pick up riders. Also after running at wot for short time, and some other random events. Oh and also one day when very choppy.
Stern drive oil expansion tank is 3 qtrs full. Wondering if it is a faulty sensor

Likely, the sensors are known to go bad. It's about a $50 replacement, since the sensor is molded into the reservoir, so you'll have to replace the whole thing. Just drain your drive oil down first or you'll have a heck of a smelly mess in your engine bay.

what year did mercruiser start using alarms on boats? the only way i know when there is a problem is watching the gauges and hoping there right.

I have warranty still outstanding from when I purchased the boat from a broker. So I hope they can sort it out for me :-)

There are two bullet connectors that connect the Gear Lube sensor to the engine harness. If all is well there is supposed to be an open circuit between the two. If the level is low the resistance is supposed to be a short. If you are sure your level is high enough then try unplugging one of the bullet connectors and see if your alarm is still coming on. Just a note, I have seen where the wiring can contact the hot exhaust manifold and melt the insulation.

Engineer has checked it out and can't find any problems with the engine and out drive that would cause an alarm. Seems thee are 2 alarms behind the dash. One for the engine the other connected to the depth sounder.
The depth sounder is connected to a dial in the dash. I'm assuming this is standard equipment? They think it could be this one going off so I need to check it next time I am out.
What would the the criteria for the alarm to go off. I've been in 2ft of water and it has not triggered?
