Hello...... I also need to replace my ignition switch as I just changed my starter,wiring leads and cleaned all my battery connections and grounds and my boat still won't fire up ....Pulled the ignition switch out and the boat finally turned over.... Now it starts sometimes on the first try but at other times won't turn over until 3-4 turns of the key ( won't click or make any noise at the starter) ........ My question is will any generic 4 position ignition switch work for me..... I'm really trying to get this fixed tomorrow and can't wait to order a original switch and key.... Thanks in advance.

My 99 7.4 Mpi had very similar symptoms. I changenged everything and somethings twice. 3 things that finally worked was 1. Replaced the ground connector that attaches to the back of the block 2. Had a mercruiser quicksilver starter installed by a "certified" tech but when I checked the bolts were loose and the last thing was the 20 amp breaker for the ignition ...the one under the dash.
