Re: Direction needed.

Speedo problem is likely either a plugged intake (look on the front of the outdrive) or the black plastic tube has been disconnected from the nipple just above the front of the anti-ventilation plate.

Re: Direction needed.

So far I have replaced the plugs with ac delco, new ac delco oil filter, new oil, and a wix fuel filter. Took her out tonight and she picked up about 300 rpm I believe, but still seems slow coming up on plane. I'm wondering if I'm propped wrong, or if I just need to run the rest of the fuel out of it and start over. I'm going to check fuel pressure, and timing asap and will update when I can.
Thanks
Justin

Fuel pressure is 46 idle, and 44-45 under acceleration. Leaves timing, which I doubt, distributor and wires, which I doubt, old fuel, which I'm thinking, or under propped/beat up props.

Hello........ Change your props ASAP ........ Changed my props out on Wednesday and took it out Today and it was like a different boat...I couldn't run it WOT because I had my kids but it definitely felt like the engine had more power and it sounded better .. I had a vibration that went away and even the prop wash out the rear looked cleaner...

It's my first boat and I guess I didn't realize how bad my old props were but they only had a couple dings each and the rear prop had what looked like a 1" ding looking like it was hammered back into place..
Rebuilt/Serviced props on Ebay $450--$60 for new nuts & washers for props & $90 for the prop tool....
I thought it ran great before ......now it's amazing.

Talked to a mechanic friend and he thinks he has some 26s laying around. Id like to give them a try before I spend another grand for the xr's I want. I took off today beside a formula and I was getting up on plane a lot quicker than he was, and we were loaded about the same. So it's not that bad, just doesn't feel like 400 hp according to my butt in seat dyno.
Thanks for the reply 99 258.

So finally put on a set of polished merc 24's and OMG. This thing is a beast now out of the hole and midrange. Top end is about the same only with a lot more rpm. Not sure if I like the higher rpm cruising, but it is an awesome trade off. Didn't get a chance to really top her out as it was either too crowded or not enough room before running out of lake. Got her well over 50 before lifting. Thanks for earlier suggestions.

I couldn't believe the change my boat made with new props .......Even my buddies all commented on what a better ride.....I guess my old props were trashed even though they only had a couple dings on it
