Stainless Steel "Cleaver" Style Prop Question.
 

A buddy of mine replaced his entire lower unit on a 1984 Donzi Z25. He went from an Alpha 1 to the Bravo. He gave me the stainless prop off of the Alpha 1.

It is a Quicksilver 48-89800-A5 19p, 3-blade cleaver type prop in stainless steel. It is in excellent condition (after I gently removed all of the "stuff" stuck on the blades like concrete). Some links I have found say this prop was like $700 or $800 new. It's a beast, and the cleave style looks like it's poised to whip your butt, very cool . . .

Anyways, I have a 2008 SX19 with the 220hp MPI engine. I currently have the stock aluminum 19p prop on the boat. I hit 52.9 MPH GPS with the current prop and had to add the Smart Tabs SX to aid in the hole shot, which is definitely more impressive now.

Questions:
1. Will the SS cleaver prop increase performance?
2. Is it worth swapping the props and leaving the Aluminum prop as a spare?
3. Are the cleaver type props good out of the hole, or just good for top end?
4. Can you do watersports, tubing, skiing, etc. with the cleaver style prop?

I think that you will find that a cleaver prop is a surfacing prop that is designed for lighter high speed hulls. Its bottom end performance may not be good on your boat and it may have touble keeping the boat's bow up.

Your engine installation may also be set too low for a cleaver prop.

A cleaver style prop is a speed prop only and wont work very well on your boat. As Shabah 198SE pointed out, its designed to cut the water surface for optimum efficiency using shallow hulls & higher hp engines.
