Revolution 4 or Vensura?

Hey all,

I'd like to get an SS four blade but am confused by the two model choices.

18" hull, 4.3 v6 wot 4600 rpm and 46 mph indicated with the stock 14.25 x 21 3 blade alum. The overall goal here is to improve hole shot and maintain top end.

I'd like to get into some watersports again so the hole shot is important.

I get the impression the rev 4 is a more modern technology and probably the better choice for this setup?

Cheers,

y

Re: Revolution 4 or Vensura?

I dont know a whole lot about either prop other than the Vensura is older technology that provides solid low/mid range performance & suffers a bit a top speed. The blades are far less raked & cupped than the Revolution 4 which is the new technology. The issue with the cupping is that cupped blades tend to increase the actual pitch which in turn lowers the rpms so you will have to take that into account if you are going to buy one. This will mean you may have to drop to a 19" pitch to offset the drop in rpm & keep you near the rpm maximum of 4800. With either blade though, you will likely lose anywhere from 1-5mph off your top end but also likely at the low end of that range with the Rev 4 if you choose carefully. You have to understand that top speed and hole shot are polar opposites & nearly impossible to achieve the optimum at both ends.

Mercury's recommendations are as follows:

Vensura: For V-6 outboard and 3.0L-5.7L Alpha sterndrive water ski, wakeboard and tubing boats:

Revolution: For V-6 outboards and Bravo One and TRS sterndrives, especially sport and offshore boats

Now i have read that some have used the Rev 4 on the Alpha 1 drive with no problems & it showed improved performance. Most of what i have read is favourable to the performance of the Rev 4.
