Prop recommendation does not seem right?

I have a 1996 Z220 5.7 alpha 1.62 ratio. I am currently running a Mirage stainless 19p prop wot 4600rpms with 51gps. The boat does perform pretty good but most of the time we do water sports so I am considering a 4 blade. I contacted Turning Point and gave my specs. I was advised to get a 14.50in 17p 4 blade. I was told the rpms will still be within spec. I would of thought a 19p 4 blade would of been the choice. What do you guys think? I have no previous experience with 4 blade so maybe dropping two pitch sizes is normal. Thanks for your opinions

Re: Prop recommendation does not seem right?

Turning Point props are designed a bit differently from Mirage props so that may explain their lower pitch recommendation. I would probably go with an 18" pitch 4 blade or possibly a 19" pitch 4 blade in SS.

If you want to learn a little about prop selection, read thru the STICKYS at the top of the Prop Talk Forum.

I have read the stickys and have read a lot of info on props. I know most suggest dropping two sizes when going to a 4 blade but I’m thinking you maybe right with the 18 /19 pitch. I’m sure my marina would let me test them out. They unfortunately don’t have much in stock right now with our local season winding down.
