Props with vent system

My Mercury SS prop has three black plastic/rubber plugs up near the front of the prop. Each is labeled "Performance Vent System". I have read where drilling a prop in these locations can sometimes help a boat plane out quicker, anyone here try it?

I think before I take it out next time I will pop them out and see if it makes any difference. Too bad that will be a couple of weeks ..... :(

Hi 94 Talari,

Did you find out how those vents were supposed to work and were you able to experiment with them?

Just wondering...,

I read a post on another forum about them, seems they sell those plugs with different size holes in them. I haven't had a chance to get a set with the holes in them yet. I will get some and try next year. I think the post said the vents with medium sized holes worked best with my setup.

Hi 94 Talari,

Thanks for the fast responce, I found this on the web today, thought this might explain what they do a little better:

Looks like they induce a little cavitation to help speed up the prop when you first take off.

Take care and hope to hear from you next year about how they work out,
WetWilly
