Relocate fuel tank 91 2000z????

We already have all the floors, stringers, etc out of the boat and we're wondering if relocating the fueltank is a good or bad idea? This question comes from reading about planing issues involved with more weight in the rear of the boat...would moving the fuel tank forward help with that? We already have the smart tabs on it and will be taking the indignity of the hydrofoil off. We have not had the boat on the water yet so don't know how it's gonna handle but we know that we have the option of moving some weight to the bow while it's all pulled apart...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you are going to move it i wouldn't move it too much forward as you may throw the balance of the handling off given the weight of a full fuel tank. Also, I'm not sure though if there are any 'legal' issues in basically 'redesigning' the boat from a licencing/Coast Guard standpoint.

And before the others chime in..... see, i'm not the only one that promotes the use of Smart Tabs!

:eek_animated: Bad idea.

Mariah's engineers spent countless hours of research and development designing their stringer substructure and components completely around the boat hull and maximizing use of space, balance, weight distribution, to optimize the ride for the best performance, smooth ride, and fuel economy. Moving the fuel tank forward would cause your bow to be more in the water, which decreases performance and fuel economy. It can also present some serious safety issues in rough water. Boats aren't meant to be bow heavy. Moving the fuel tank back towards the engine farther causes the boat to be more heavy on the stern, which means you'll never be able to get the boat to plane correctly, even with smart tabs. Just leave the fuel tank where it is. Yank the hydrofoil off and just enjoy the boat the way it was originally designed!

Plus the smart tabs of course... Lol.
