Reattaching Vertical Carpet

With all the projects we've done that have involved running hoses or wiring along the length of the boat, the carpet up against the side of the boat no longer stays up. We pulled it all down when we started the projects figuring it wouldn't be hard to reattach, just use some adhesive... Well that was not the case. We've tried the headliner spray adhesive as well as doing patches of contact cement. Nothing seems to stand up to the heat like the original adhesive that was used. When the cover is put on the boat and it sits in the sun, the glue just turns soft and when we pull the cover off, the carpet has once again fallen down.

I'm sure other people have found a product that solves this problem? I'm tired of looking at the nasty glue side of the carpet hanging down into the boat. Anyone got some ideas?
