Captains Call/Thru Hull Hoses

I've seen several threads on here of guys talking about installing a captains call, but no pictures or detailed instruction for dealing with the false transom wall, and they are all 4-5 year old threads. So let's start a current thread on part replacement. I'm sure at some point someone on here has had to deal with the double hull/transom to either install or repair the Thru Hull. I can't figure our how to get access to the hose clamps that are in between the two transom pieces to replace that section of exhaust hose. does anyone have any solutions before I decide to cut a big access hole in the first wall??? And if I do HAVE to cut an access hole, there is a lot of foam behind the side needing replaced, is it ok to remove that foam?

Mine came with the Captain's Call, but I can take some pictures of my setup if you think it will help

I don't have the exact same boat as you (I have the Z280) but it has the false transom as well. I had to access the area when I installed the bolts for my extended swim platform last year. You can get an arm in there and barely see if you contort your head/body at just the right angle. One thing I had going for me was the motor was out of the boat at the time I installed the swim platform. Since then I have accessed the area by removing all the batteries on the port side and laid down where the batteries we located. Mariahs were definitely not designed for serviceability!

I think I could find a way to cram myself back there and reach over the top, but unfortunately on the starboard side there is spray foam that fills the gap, basically starting at the exhaust hose(covering the clamps) to the starboard corner. is this foam standard? there is none on the port side, but the port hose was replaced before I bought the boat. is it possible they tore out the old foam and didn't put any back in? is it needed?

I didn't have any foam in that area of my boat so I don't know if it is standard. I am sure you could dig out the foam to remove the clamp without compromising the floatation.

Hey Firestone, If you could get some pic s that would be great! especially if you can get your camera to look down into the space I'm referring to. might give me an idea if there are any wires or anything to avoid back there. My harness is all on the front side and can see it, but with the foam I can't see if there is anything on the backside to avoid while cutting out the foam.

I'm going to try attaching some pictures from in between the open space. unfortunately I found out that I can wiggle in there far enough to reach my arm over and reach the clamps. I think if I can get the hose to separate from the spray foam I may just be able to pull clamps and all out the back because it appears that my Exhaust tip is larger than the diameter of the clips. Probably still going to have to cut an access from the front to cut the spray foam away and then just epoxy the piece back in place.

I can't figure out how to attach the photos (can't get links to copy and paste) so if any of you care to see the pictures I could email them to you. Also, I'll try and remember to take pictures of cutting the access/repair etc.

Well I got everything replaced, I do have pics to post when I gigure it out. Now I have a problem, after idling aND reving for ten minutes, I can touch one riser and it's only warm, the other I could firmly press my hand on it for ten seconds (after running for ten minutes) and feel the need to pull away. Is there an easy fix here, if not can it wait till next season to replace risers and manifold? Both sides expelled equal amounts of water.
