Intermittent Alarm

I'm asking this question for my dad who owns a Shabah Z212 with a Merc 7.4L 454, fuel injected.

When he puts the throttle down to get on plane the alarm sounds for a few seconds until he gets on plane and it goes away. All gauges appear normal and he just replaced his impeller last season. It doesn't do it if he is really careful about how much throttle he gives it but if he gets too hard on it the alarm will sound. It's the same alarm you get when you turn the key before the motor starts.

I've read somewhere that it could be low drive lube?? Not sure at this point and we're both stumped. Any ideas guys?? Thanks.

Re: Intermittent Alarm

Kitto,
The alarm on the 7.4 MPI can be triggered by low oil pressure, high coolant temperature or low drive oil. If you are not noticing any fluctuations on the oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges then I would focus on the drive oil. It is possible the when accelerating the fluid runs to the back of the reservoir just enought to set the alarm off. Make sure there is enough lube in the drive oil reservoir, I usually fill mine to where the drive oil just covers the top of the stainless steel post for the sensor float in the reservoir.
