Mariah MX20 - my first boat!
I picked up a 1992 MX20 that I purchased from the original owner who retired and upgraded to a cruiser. The motor was always properly winterized/maintained. He also kept it in his garage and always covered. I've been browsing boats for a while now and knew right away that this was the one for me. I definitely plan on babying it as much as he did.
Anyway, I just wanted to post and say hi. I'm glad there's a forum dedicated to these great boats! http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5a7b0a34.jpg http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...psd6ba9296.jpg Owner's manual. I'm happy that it was included, but it has more information about boating safety/rules than details about the boat. http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps200cf52e.jpg It came with the original tape deck, which I promptly updated. The speedometer doesn't work but I have a map/speedo app on my iPad that works well in it's place. :) http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9f22df7d.jpg http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps525af72f.jpg http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...psc0e4d4f8.jpg |

Re: Mariah MX20 - my first boat!
Ingenious!
Let's see if we can get your speedo working.:wink_thumbup: When you get a chance , check these few things: 1) check to make sure there is not a blockage at the pickup hole on the front of the drive. If there is you can use a small drill bit/wire by hand to work the blockage free usually. 2) pull the hose from the back of the speedo and use light air pressure to "back blow" the line.Unplug at drive to verify line is clear 3) if that doesn't work try unplugging the line from the drive and using a syringe , squirt water in the line til full , then use compressed air to back blow it out. Just a few things to try. |

I appreciate the tips - I'll give them a try. I figured the gauge was just broken. :blue_chuckle: |
Re: Mariah MX20 - my first boat!
99% of the time it's a line or pickup fitting issue , not the gauge. :)

Re: Mariah MX20 - my first boat!
I've had to fix the non-working speedo a couple of times and both times it was a small blockage at the outdrive. I did use a small air compressor to blow back air thru the line from the speedo (after disconnecting it!) back to the outdrive. Doing that also pinpoints where the hole is in the outdrive.

Re: Mariah MX20 - my first boat!
I think I found the problem! The pickup line is about 1/2" short of the outdrive connection.
I'm assuming there's a barbed connector that is missing? http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...ps48bf7c8b.jpg |
