Thinking of replacing Faria depth finder

I'm Thinking of replacing the original Faria depth finder in my 1999 182 Mariah. Upon investigation I see dash removal for the gauge, and the sender appears to be in a well of the bilge with only the top exposed.

Any guidance?

Thanks,

Paul

What you see is exactly what you have to deal with. The transducer is bedded in a well of epoxy assuming the epoxy hasn't already become brittle & the transducer is loose. You'll want to set the new transducer in the same hole once you have cleaned it all out. Make sure you note the wire colors going to each terminal on the gauge and what each wire is for.

Should i ask why you are replacing the unit? They generally dont go bad.

Mikey,

Thanks for the reply. The gauge has be erratic, or not working. I may try just the gauge first? Then hope the transducer is okay, it does not appear to be loose.

We Love our Mariah.... for 15 years!

Thanks,
Paul

I doubt that its the gauge. More likely the transducer needs to be dug out, cleaned up and then re-bedded in new epoxy. And clean the connections on the back of the gauge.

Have a look at gahooligan's thread here in the same section. He's going thru the same issues.
