99' Z280 Blower Won't Shut Off

This is really strange:

- Turned battery switch on
- Turned on blower switch (in dash) prior to starting engine.
- Engine starts
- Turned blower switch to off - blower continued to run.
- Turned battery switch to off - blower stops
- Pulled red power wire to in-dash blower switch
- Turned battery switch to on - as hoped, blower does not turn on.
- Thought the problem was in the switch
- Next day removed switch; ordered new.
- Next day (switch still removed), turned battery switch to on. Blower also turns on.
- Thought I'd re-install old switch but blower still runs, even with the red power wire (and all wires to the switch) were removed as previously.

I found where I believe the blower is located but I can't see it or have a clue as to how to remove and replace since it is so deeply hidden.

All I want to do now is just cut a wire that disables the blower entirely until I can find a way to replace.

Does anybody have any idea whatsoever? This is really baffling!

Thanks in advance,

Roger

Found The Blower(s)

I finally found the blowers tucked way up in the back (extremely hard to get at). I was able to disconnect the wire on one and it did shut down, and found the other was running also, so, disconnected that one.

Now, it appears that something other than the actual blowers is causing them to constantly run.

Since no one has responded to this I assume that everyone else is as baffled as I.

Hoping to get some sort of insight here.

Thank you

Have patience there Mr Butterfield. Sometimes it takes a little time to think about the problem at hand and sometimes our more technical members (not necessarily me) have other things to do at home. It sounds like there is a short circuit in the wiring after the switch location. Likely a live (always powered) wire touching the power wire leading to the blowers. You may have to trace the power wire backwards to the switch to locate where this might be occurring.

What year / model of Mariah do you own?

We do have wiring diagrams, manuals etc available to contributing members. Click on "Donate" above and all will be explained.

Hi Mike - Sounds like this ought to be a lot of fun tracing the short :-)

I have a 1999 Z280.

This was strange in that the once the engine started and I turned the blower switch to off, both blowers kept running. So I thought it had to be the blower switch in the dash and therefore ordered one.

Thank you for the assist here.

Roger
