buzzing sound not turning off

I went out to do some wakeboarding yesterday and when I turn the key to the on position i get the loud tone that should go away after starting the boat but yesterday when I started it, its kept going for a while. I called a boat a boat repair shop yesterday while out on the water and he said that i need to add 90wt oil to the clear plastic bottle on the top of the motor up to the line. Can anybody confirm this for me. Ny the way, the bottle is at 1/4. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Hey Shane ,
Yes , you need to top off the reservoir. There is a sensor that is going off at startup , telling you the drive is low.
I would use the Mercruiser lube myself.
Here is a little info on the different lubes used by Mercruiser.
Here is info on changing and/or filling the drive.
You might better look around the system and see if it is leaking at one of the fittings or a hose/seal.
Make sure you don't have water in the drive oil. If so , get it resealed right now! :)

Yea, I agree with ColoradoDiablo. When I changed out my impeller and changed the gear oil at the same time (which you have to), I didn't check the reservoir before starting the boat and the alarm kept going off until I filled it as well. I always keep some in my boat just in case.
