350 Mag Hesitation At Full Acceleration

I have a Z212 Shabah with a 350 Mag, 4-Barrel Weber 9700 Series carb. I have never rebuilt the carb only ran cleaners and fuel treatment through it. When I give full acceleration the boat will hesitate, if I slightly let off the throttle then go to full acceleration it opens up and runs great. I was thinking of doing a carb re-build or purchasing an aftermarket carb. I would like to get as much power as I can without breaking the bank.

Have you tried changing the fuel filter?
The accelerator pump on the carb will do that too.
Try filter first then think about a carb rebuild if that doesn't do the trick.
There is no getting more power without breaking the bank!!
$100.00 per horsepower increase is what your looking at.
Just the way it is.

As Usual Just My Opinion:)

2 answers to the to the more power Question.
Like Larry said tuning for more power costs big $$$
Less weight don't.

me personally I like having my creature comforts on board so i'm happy with the compromise,
but if you wan't to go faster without shelling out the Dollar then you're gona have to start leaving things behind.

As for your initial question about the hesitation, if it's running fine at WOT but it just hesitates when you throw the hammer down then it sounds like a fuel flow problem to me.
+1 on what ColoradoDiablo said :wink_thumbup:

I went through the same issues last month with the same engine. I finally changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, drained the tank dry of old ethanol gas and added 91 octane ethanol free gas. Runs and idles great. Do you have a in line filter on the carb at the intake side?

Re: 350 Mag Hesitation At Full Acceleration

Thanks for the responses I have not changed the fuel filter this year yet but I did change it last year and the boat did the same after the filter change. The only filter on the fuel is the main spin on filter. The boat runs great and doesn't do this all the time and only when I throw the hammer down. I never thought of the fuel pump might not be a bad thing to change anyway. The boat runs WOT fine. Any other advice?
