Boat cover question
 

I have my original Mariah boat cover on my 2001 192 Shabah. The cover is weathered but still seems to be in pretty good shape other than one tear where windshield corner is and the fabric is not waterproof anymore. I would really like to keep the original cover. I'm sure I can have the tear repaired but can the cover be made waterproof again?

I still have my original Mariah cover & despite being a bit beat-up and patched in a couple of spots, i treat it with some Aerospace 303 protectorant every couple of seasons and it still does not let the water in.

Their customer service is excellent . I recently coated my cover with the 303 product, after using their fabric guard cleaner. The water proofing seemed to work for a few months, but recently started absorbing water. I emailed 303 a few days ago and they are now sending me 2 new 32oz bottles of the waterproofing spray and a bottle of the fabric guard to reprep my cover FREE OF CHARGE! They told me it was there goal to make sure that I was very satisfied with their product, although I have not received it yet I have no doubt that it is already in the mail. I believe that I applied too much product which would cause it to not work properly, atleast per the conversation i had with the 303 representative. However they also wanted to rule out that I did not receive any type of defective product thus the reason they are sending me all new stuff. The total for these three products would be very expensive and I was not looking for them to replace it, this was completely voluntary on their part. To say the least I am very excited to receive my replacement products in the mail. I would highly suggest them not only because their products are superior but because of the way they handled my situation regardless of fault. Before you buy product and spray your cover I would suggest cleaning it with something like the 303 fabric guard. Also do not use a pressure washer on your cover when cleaning it. I would suggest using some type of soft brush, the 303 fabric guard and low pressure water to rinse contaminants off of it. You will want it to thoroughly dry before applying any waterproofing product. I had my cover recently reinforced in a few spots, along with a small patch, new straps and 2 pole vents installed. The upholstery shop that did the work also cleaned and supposedly waterproofed my cover at this time. They claimed that they used a product called aqua-tite. It did not shed water but in a few spots. This is the reason i purchased the 303 products. I use their other products inside my cars and in the boat.. So I would highly suggest using them.

Wow! Thanks I'll be doing same thing to my cover that you did. Doesn't sound like I'll be disappointed at all. Thanks again for all the info.

Cleaning Sunbrella is the key - then the 303. Works wonders!

Thanks for sharing those videos. I didn't realize you could use bleach. I might try cleaning mine again, like the video before retreating it with my new 303

Some bleach, not full strength ...

The Sunbrella is solution dyed Acrylic, so the color is completely in the thread fibers of the Acrylic material, which is OK with some bleach, but the stitching can be damaged by strong bleach.

Polyester and Cotton Duck canvas and covers should NOT be cleaned with bleach (or any harsh chemicals), since the color is dyed on the surface (not dyed into the fibers of the thread making the material like Sunbrella's Acrylic), and can be easily damaged by bleaches and chemicals.

Yes - 303 is a great product and has great support.
