Water in gear lube
Hello all,
I have a 1995 Z200 Talari with a Alpha One outdrive. I have a gear lube reservoir that seems to be leaking and now I have water in the gear lube. I cannot locate the leak, but until now, the lube in the outdrive has been fine. How do I know if there is damage from the water? Also, can I just replace the gear lube through the outdrive and maybe block of the line to the reservoir? |
Re: Water in gear lube
If you have water in the lube you got water in the outdrive.
Not good at all.:shakehead: I would suggest doing a pressure/vacuum test on the drive , but you definitely have one or more seals leaking:eek_animated: The drive is going to be resealed for sure , at the minimum. BTW..........Welcome to MOC! :) |
Re: Water in gear lube
Thanks for the response. Forgive my lack of knowledge, but is resealing the outdrive something a novice can do? I have a mechanic coming to look at it Tuesday. I assume the outdrive needs to come off, but is it something I should try or leave it to a professional? Thanks again!

Re: Water in gear lube
Leave it to your mechanic.
The drive has to be torn down and new seals installed. Need specialized tools for some areas of the drive. Not for the novice mechanic. I'm interested to see what his fee is for the repair. Let us know what he says K? |
Re: Water in gear lube
Thanks Larry. Like all boat repairs, I'm sure it will be outrageous. I'll pass on the information.
