1996 Z210 Smart Tabs

So I ordered my tabs last week and according to UPS they will be at my house when I get home from work. I want to install them ASAP but I want to get an general consensus on where most people are actually placing them on the boat. I have seen a few different placements when I look on the site and want to see what is working best for people. If anyone out there has the same/similar model please let me know where and how they are working for you. :)

As far outboard of centerline as possible. Which usually isn't to far on our Mariahs'. :)

I think your mounting options are going to be limited judging from everyone's pictures lol

Re: 1996 Z210 Smart Tabs

I'm not sure if anyone else had to do it - but i did have to cut back two of my bunks (as I was afraid they would catch the Smart Tabs). I just cut them flush with the transom so I know they wouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone else done this?

I am looking at having to relocate my spedo and cutting the bunks on the trailer. I just rebuilt my trailer too. :( Guess I will get to sawing and drilling this weekend if the weather permits.

You don't have to cut your bunks.
Take the adjuster pin out while it's on the trailer

Just remember to put them back in when launching.....along with your bung while your down there. :wink_thumbup:

I did trim mine back a couple of inches so that they came flush with the transom when the boat was snugged up tight on the trailer. That way i never have to worry about the bunks damaging things like the Smart Tabs.

Re: 1996 Z210 Smart Tabs

1. I would either lose or forget them before I got to the ramp.

2. I would forget to put them in at launch and end up trying to hook them back up while on the water - at which point I would fall over the backside of the transom into the water and lose them anyways.

3. I would probably lose my phone and wallet as well, because i'm lucky like that.

Also, where I launch there is a high probability that a snapping turtle might eat my keys after they fall out of my pocket while I flail around in the water trying to get that ladder down to crawl back into the boat.

Thus I cut my bunks

Re: 1996 Z210 Smart Tabs

After reading through most of the smart tab threads and looking at lots of pictures and getting some good advice from Rhinoz....I installed my tabs last night and went smoothly.

I am planning on going to the lake tomorrow with the gf and trying them out and adjusting as needed. I pretty much had most of all of the same issues as everyone else but I think the one that bothered me the most was the proposing in rougher water. I really hope that will be fixed as I live in kansas and wind is just part of boating. I always dreaded cutting across the lake. I would always pay attention to other boats and it seemed like everyone elses boat was not taking a pounding like mine.

Thanks! I will post some pics for others to use as a guide and give some feedback on the test run.

I'm thinking of buying smart tabs. According to all I've read, it sounds like they are a great investment. Any downfalls? Any suggestions on what size to get for my 19'?

thanks all

I love mine. Could tell immediately upon installation a huge change in my ability to get on plane. If you search for them in the forums there are several different conversations.
