Radio Help!!

Hey Guys,

Trying to trouble shoot to figure out what’s going on with my radio but I am stumped. Sitting at idle I can turn up to roughly 25 before it acts like it resets itself and won’t reboot till I turn the volume back down. Also if I going anything faster than 20-25mph it also resets itself and wont reboot till turn the volume back down. I should add that at idle if I turn on my docking lights that it resets and reboots which makes me think it’s not getting enough power? My battery is saying it has 13 volts and it pretty new. I have tried tracing wires but haven’t had much luck finding solving the problem....any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Don't hold me to it, but it could be a bad ground?

Bad ground or power wires...it is getting a voltage drop somewhere.

Thanks! I will have to try to trace back the ground wire so I can figure out if that is the case! Have you ever replaced the power wires? Just curious how hard that might be....

thanks!

I replaced the ground wire and now I can get to a slightly higher volume on the radio but it’s still acting like it is shortly out and resetting itself. It doesn’t reset itself for nearly as long as it did before so I am thinking maybe it’s the power wires? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Let me make a guess here, custom head unit set up (maybe an amp, maybe more)?

Reason I ask is it sounds like your power wires are too small of a gauge to carry the current needed. If A. you have an amplified head unit that draws too much power on the little wires that were pre-existing, or that were used in installation that is exactly what will happen or B. have an amp installed with too small of a gauge wire same thing. I have seem it a million times with aftermarket installs.

I hope that fixes it for ya.

Yeah an aftermarket head units, I will try replacing that tomorrow to see if that is the problem!

Thanks!

I know this is an old thread but I finally got around to running a dedicated power wire with an inline fuse and now it doesn't short out anymore. Thanks for your help!

Hey man, good news! Glad I could help. Oddly I was reading this thread just the other day wondering if you got it worked out.

Enjoy it!
