Is a Jubilee 214 with 4.3 under powered??

Hi folks, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here.

I’m considering a 99 214 Jubilee, that’s powered by a 4.3 with a duo prop merc. Owner says with the current prop setup, it gets out of the hole quick and tops out at about 45.

We do a lot of skiing and pulling, but also will load up with people and go for a cruise. I’m concerned that the 4.3 won’t have enough power when the boat is loaded up. Any Jubilee owners out there with a similar setup that can provide some feedback on their boat?

Thanks.

A 4.3 with a duo prop? I cant say that i've seen that combination to date. If true i doubt that it actually reaches 45mph and is probably closer to 40-42mph on a GPS and if you are loaded up and thinking of pulling tubers etc i suspect it will work hard. I suspect it would be better with a 5.0 or 5.7.

My friend had this boat with the 5.0 in it. He had a hard time pulling a wake board behind it with 4 or 5 people in the boat. He had to move everyonr to the front to get it to somewhat pull. I don't think you would like that smaller engine IMHO.

Thanks for the input.
I'm not _too_ concerned with top speed. Generally we can't run much more than 30ish due to chop and what not... although, it certainly was nice with the Shabah as well as my last boat to be able to open them up and run at 50 (shabah) or 60 (Astro) when I wanted to :wink_thumbup:

ttown; Do you know what prop setup your buddy has/had on his Jubilee when it had a hard time pulling a wake board?

I know I can always prop down to handle pulling a load, but at some point, there's just no substitute for HP when pulling and planing out. That's my biggest concern with the 4.3.

On the other hand, I'm still waiting to hear from the seller if it's carbed or fuel injected. That's a 30 hp diff and basically gives the 4.3 the same hp as a carbed 5.0. Little less torque, but still respectable.

On other boat sites, I am reading a lot of _very_ good reviews on running a 4.3 with a duo-prop vs 5.0 with a single, so I'm feeling better about the setup, but am still a bit apprehensive.

My neighbor runs a 19' Monterey with a 4.3 and loves it. Good power to ski and screw around with, but gets good mileage too.

Anyone with a 20-22' Mariah running a 4.3? Jubilee or not, what are your thoughts about the setup?

I'm not sure of the prop numbers but his boat had a hell af a time planing out just with three of us on it. My 24 jubilee is slow out of the hole but tops out quick i have a 454, so i know the smaller engine is just about the same. It also my oppinion so take it with a grain of salt.
