Thinking of buying this boat....thoughts? Price?
 

Hello!

I'm looking for input on a potential purchase. I'm not a boater...and I would like to be. I'm seeking in put on this Craigslist 1994 Mariah TalAri Z200 limited. I have attached a link. Looking for input on price and questions I should ask.

Nice looking rig.

Check it out as much as possible.

It's in range of what I would think it is worth but..........it's wintertime.........don't be afraid to haggle with him.:)

Get the maintenence records
Check all fluids(clean , full)
Check hull for damage to keel area
Check for soft spots in floor(very unlikely with a Mariah)
Check Trim Indicator to make sure it works(they are kinda a pain to replace sender)
Test all electricals to make sure everything works
Find out when the impeller in the drive was last replaced
Fire it up on the muffs
Really need to get it on the water if possible

There is more also....just some things off the top of my head.

I'm sure more members will fill in the blanks.

Wait...trim indicators that work? I thought that was a myth?! Lol

Looks like a nice first boat but I think there is a bit of room to negotiate on the price. Maybe $7k tops...and anything under that is a bonus assuming the stuff Larry mentioned checks out okay.

I will second the idea to check fluid levels! First time I took mine out on the water the trim would not come back up. It was low on fluid. Easy fix and should have caught it prior to boating. I was probably a little too excited to notice.
As for the price- it is winter! I bought mine in July and while the boat is good condition I have a feeling I would have been able to negotiate with the stealership a bit better than I did.

Welcome to the Club! I have a 93 Talari 200Z and it's been a great boat except for some blisters forming on the hull below the waterline. The previous owner had it in a slip and I think accelerated the problem with a couple bad years in Mariah hulls. Make sure to take a thorough look at the hull for small chips or raised areas which would indicate some osmostic blistering is occuring. I would also recommend spinning the propeller shaft to see it the damage to the SS prop bent the shaft at all. I think it looks like a well maintained boat though. I paid $5600 for my 93 with 224 hours on her. It was not in excellent condition when I bought it so that is something to take into account. $7k would be a reasonable offer I think as long as the trailer looks good.

Look over the hull especially the keel real good. I bet it's gouged up pretty good from being beached. It can be reapaired , but keep that in mind when setting a price.

I bought the boat! Thanks for all of the helpful input.

The hull has been fixed previously and appears to be in great shape.

I do need to trouble shoot the depth finder-the sending unit doesn't report. I won't be able to test it until I get in the water. After some quick browsing it sounds as though it may be the apoxy holding the sending unit down that is the issue? Unfortunately it isn't an easy item to get to.

Congratulations!
In regards to the depth finder: Mine was not working when I purchased it. After following all the wires and double checking connections turns out the display was bad. I found it easier to buy a complete setup for 100+ shipping. The new one actually matches the other displays better than the previous one and it has the water temp. Just a thought!
