Z302
Looking at a Z302, my concern is it only has a 454 the majority of boats that size have twin's, what kind of speed can you get and how long to get it on plane? It has a Bravo III any advice would be apprciated.

Re: Z302
According to the brochure Brad , 50-54 mph with the 7.4.
There are numberous members in the club with the Z302 boats. I'm sure they will be more than happy to discuss the pros and cons with you shortly:) |

Re: Z302
What year?
Does it have a trailer? That sounds like a fair price , but make sure it's worth it by taking her out as you said. I sure like the mid cabin boats! :) She weighs in at 5700+ , so it isn't going to be a rocket , but I bet it will pleasantly suprize you. You could always do a little work on the 7.4. Get some pics:wink_thumbup: |
Re: Z302
It's a 1998 with Chariot trailer, taking wife to look at it, I'll take some pic's, but I have a heck of a time getting theme on the website.

Re: Z302
Holler at us Brad! We'll help you get them on the club site.

Re: Z302
The brochure was being very optimistic. I don't think a boat that heavy will hit 54mph with a 7.4. I know of a z252 that hits right about 50mph with a 7.4. My guess would be 45 to maybe 47 on a really good day. That's only a guess. You're not buying that boat for speed though.

Re: Z302
As a Z302 owner the list of any replacement to her is VERY short. We love it!
can only talk about the 7.4 power from a rider stand point as mine has the 8.2 volvo setup, one other z302 owner around here has the 454 it seemed very close to mine ride and handling wise we were just cruising 3000-3200rpm his speedo wasn't working he said before it quite low to mid 50's was WOT and good water. My GPS speed is 61, on a prefect day 58 on a normal day 6 adults, half a tank and both big ice chest onboard. Oregondune and Boatcrazy are both great guys to get advice from on here reading there stuff helped me a ton |
Re: Z302
Thanks everyone for your feedback, I was told about 35mph, but I knew there were a few Z302 owners on the website, I can live with 45 not 35.

Re: Z302
as an owner of a z302 with a std 454 and B3. I have tried every which was I can get even 45 out of ours. Im up from 24p props to now 28p (which I havent test yet). I have smart planes and have trimmed them for max speed and effectiveness.
with the 26p props, 1/2 tank of fuel and 2 guys, tail wind, glass smooth water.....44 mph (ONCE). 43 all day long. Im pulling the motor to do some mild up grades in the coming weeks so time will tell what she'll do then. |
Re: Z302
Thanks Oregondunes that tells me what I would be looking at,40, 45mph I can deal with that I,m just so used to flying by people with my 22' 454mag but I think we would enjoy the Z302 alot.

Re: Z302
Buy the boat. Swap the engines between the 2 and gain a few more!
|
Re: Z302
our motor upgrades include:
headers re-map with 5150 rev limit (from 4400) roller rockers roller cam roller lifters 502-525 intake/injectors shooting for 400-450 hp to pull those 28p props to 5100 rpms |
Re: Z302
Brad97, I say just buy the boat, accept the speed it'll give, and enjoy it. Mariah's just aren't built to compete with GFBL boats, they're luxury boats! :)

Re: Z302
I have a 2000 Z302 and its top speed on Speddometer shows about 34 and about 38-39 max on GPS. Engine had $10,500 dollars of repairs and was sold to me as basically a new engine. It does have a bravo 3 with a 26' pitch prop. I nweed any advice one might have on how to get some more speed?
Thanks in advance. BTW I do love this boat..... Any info on a AC would be helpful too. I have pictures of one on the inside of the cabin but couldn't guess where the compressor would mount. |
Re: Z302
:wink_thumbup:we have a 2000 z302-- 502 mag w/ bravo 3 26pitch props-- 8-10 seconds to full plane, wot RPMs=4800 ; with a 1/2 tank fuel, 4 adults, bimini open, lots of stuff aboard top speed via gps is 50mph but speedo reads 56! "sweet spot cruising is 29-31 mph (gps) at approximately 3000-3200 rpms. Seldom run her wide open. Love the ride!!!
Good luck!! |
