trim switch inspection

hi! everyone; been some time since i've been on the board, trim gauge has gone all the way up,won't move, suspect it's shorted.will pull the drive in a week or two for inspection of every thing inside, don't have many hrs. but hasn't been pulled since 05 sounds like it might be quite a job if the gimbell brg.&trim switches need replacement. I'll do the testing on the switches before i pull the drive.I bought a book and overhauled my old omc outdrive, when the main shaft broke, what an undertaking. Hope the bravo 1 is easier to work on.all for now be in touch later Wayne 344http://www.mariahownersclub.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Mercruiser way easier to work on than Cobra(OMC) stuff. Keep us posted. Trim issues are always a pain.

Did you check the solenoid? You have two, one for up drive and one for down. They are on top of the hydraulic pump. My up solenoid went out and my drive was stuck down so I would check the down solenoid on yours first. You can test this by taking off the hydraulic line. Have a jar ready for the fluid. The drive should come down.

From what you stated it sounds like just the switch but the outdrive still goes up and down. If that is true, you can check your switch easy on the out drive. On the Bravo you will find two pods. One on each side. One in the indicator sensor, the other is the trim limit sensor. The caps come off those pretty easy so you can adjust the readings. If you have the book, it will tell you how to adjust or you can find a bunch of YouTube videos on how to adjust them. Having had both OMCs and Bravo's and Alphas, I'll take Merc over OMC anyday. Have fun!!
