Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Not related to power options but it's kicking my butt!! I am trying to install all new toggle switches but somehow lost power to the switches. I downloaded and printed the wiring diagrams on the forum but still cant make heads or tails out of this. I have power to the ignition but nothing to any of the toggles. Are the switches powered off the ignition key fob?

Does anyone know where the main power comes into the toggle switches??????

Check your fuses Gin under the dash , on the right side behind the stereo, right at the gunnel area. You probably blew one there.

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Yeah I checked them and replaced one. I noticed that I have two wires off my ignition switch going no where which may just have broken off with me fussing. One is red/pink which I believe is accessory ignition and the other orange w a but fuse mid line. Both have going nowhere. Then I have an orange and white coming in to nothing along with its black ground.

Thats PERFECT Larry! Thanks for all your help!! Fingers crossed. I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be the fuse block. Looks original and kinda cruddy. May head to West Marine for a new ATC Blue Sea fuse block after tracing these wires.

That is exactly what I have planned too. A guy can't find glass fuses very easy anymore in a lot of places , and I never liked them anyway.

I installed the Blue Sea ATC fuse block and wala, everything works! All new switches, terminals and fuse block. Pics and info coming soon at my thread under projects.

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Took her out for about 2 hours of solid tubing yesterday and boy what a great time we had! She is running solid and the issue of smoke and high temps is behind us. However, she still will not break the 33-36 MPH mark. This morning I removed the fuel filter at the carb and did notice some crud in there. Not a ton to cause a blockage but perhaps enough to hinder fuel delivery at WOT. Butt-head me removed the fuel filter and am now second guessing which way it goes in. Almost positive it goes in with the closed flat end out and the open end facing into the carb? YES?? no?? Ugggg

Thanks again Larry. I installed it lflat out and tried it out and yep, that's it. I also cleaned out my flame arrester which was really filthy. She idles much nicer now. On the way to the dock as we speak!

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Ugggg, running great all day, hours of tubing. Spent a couple hours at the beach, pushed off and headed back home and wham..... high rev and sudden over heat and loss of gear. She would not engage in forward or reverse. Then was hard to start but when she was cooled down and I got her to start, maybe an hour, when shifting into forward she would die out. Didn;t die out in reverse but neither would engage. Ahhhhhhhhhh

Man , I swear ya got either a thermostat sticking , a impeller at the drive that's going , or the impeller in the engine waterpump is bad.
Check the thermostat first Gin , then I'd check the engine waterpump , then the impeller at the drive.
I'd say 75% chance it's the drive impeller , but the other two are easiest to check first.

Thanks Larry. She will not engage in gear at all. Impeller would do that??

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

That sounds more like a cable/adjustment issue. Check and make sure the cables aren't binding anywhere. Dis connect the throttle at the carb and see if she will shift then. if not disconnect the shift cable. You can narrow down which cable is is hanging up. If both cables are disconnected and you still can't shift , it's in the shifter itself , or possibly a cable is broke and binding in the sheath.

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Well I just went out and took a quick look at the drive. Noticed the lower drive fluid leaking from the fill. Looks black. Also noticed the exhaust bellows torn and separated. FOund the small water hose disconnected. Also found what looks to be the old shift cable bellows in half and wedged between the drive and bellows but the shift cable had a solid bellows attached and in good shape??? UUUGGGGGGGGGGGG

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Small water hose is your heating issue. Does the shifter work in nuetral for the throttle?

Larry

Gin Time 07-23-2012 04:08 PM

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Yes. The throttle works and revs the engine in F and R but not engaging. Although I haven't started her up today after the fiasco.....

I think there is a lot going on and the season is really short so I've decided to bring a mechanic in. I will post results when I know what's up.

Read this over for the heck of it Gin. It explains things pretty well.

Replacing your Alpha One shift cable.

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Thanks Larry. I was actually at their website this morning reading that. I am just a little hesitant at this point with the boats overall performance and now this issue. I just don't have the know how to dive in and assess and diagnose what's going on and fix it. The season is so short and I don't want to miss it. Plus breaking down yesterday scared my wife and kids and I can't afford for them to get turned off and not want to go out on the boat. Then there will be no boat. :(

I plan on learning the mechanics as I go along so I will be able to handle what she throws at me in the future. But for now, off she goes to the mechanics.........

Very Good thinking Gin.
It will pay for itself in the long run. Not to mention the safety factor for you and your family.
Let us know what goes on K?

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

Not good news. She needs a new drive, new bellows outside and inside the boat and a new alternator belt. $1800 for a new aftermarket drive plus $350 for all bellows and $100 for alternator belt. Looking for a good used alpha 1 gen 2 drive. Just listed her on craigslist in as is condition for $3700/BO. Super upset about this!!

This is killing me!!!! Found a new alpha one gen 2 for $1200. This would leave me strapped and I still need to replace all the belows and the alternator belt. Anyone know any really good reputable non skinning me mechanics on Long Island, NY??

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

A 100.00 for alt belt is highway robbery!!! Take the old belt to auto parts and get one for 20.00 tops!!
You can pick up the bellows kit on ebay for 100.00. Spend the weekend on it and do it yourself. Patience is the key with the bellows and drive install.
Wish I was there to help ya , I'd do it in a heartbeat for ya.
Read sterndrive.com , here , iboats.com , anywhere you can , in the next 2 days and go for it. :)
I got faith in ya , just take your time.... and you'll save yourself 300.00 and the rest of the season :)

Thanks Larry. I just looked at the drive and the upper and lower gears are completely stripped. Mechanic said lower drain ug was loose. I thnk maybe some punk kids loosened it while she was in the street the night before.
Will the drive from a 3.7 work on my 3.0? Different gears but both on 4 cylinders. Found a used one cheap.

ColoradoDiablo 07-25-2012 04:23 PM

Re: Diablo 3.0 Power Options

To much difference in ratio not to mention the 3.7 is a Alpha 1 Gen 1 drive , and the 3.0 in your boat is a Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive.
Ratio on 3.7 is 1.84 while ratio on 3.0 is 1.94.

Sorry :(
